Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction surgery (also known as lipoplasty, body contouring surgery or simply as “lipo”) focuses on sculpting the body by targeting and removing unwanted pockets of excess fat from places such as the buttocks, hips, thighs, arms, neck, etc,.
Sometimes diet and exercise are not enough when trying to eliminate stubborn fat deposits in certain parts of the body. It can be frustrating when, despite all your hard work, you cannot yet achieve your desired figure. That’s why, in such cases, people turn to liposuction.
Millions of patients throughout the decades have improved their figures with this safe, proven procedure.
This procedure is often paired up with other procedures, such as abdominoplasty, in order to create the patient’s desired shape and it is considered one of the safest and most popular cosmetic surgeries.
Am I a candidate?
If you are in good health, within 30% (or 25 pounds) of your ideal weight, have good skin elasticity and have fat deposits in certain areas of your body that don’t respond to diet or exercise, you might be an ideal candidate for liposuction surgery.
Things to consider
While liposuction surgery does promise to help your body appear slimmer and make your clothes fit better, it is important to remember that it is not a weight loss procedure. A liposuction is not meant to eliminate stretch marks, cellulite or loose excess skin.
How does it work?
There are several techniques that a cosmetic surgeon can use to eliminate fat, most of them involve sucking the fat by inserting small, thin, blunt-tipped tubes (cannula) through small cuts in the skin, then the surgeon moves these tubes under the skin, targeting fat deposits.
Liposuction procedures are divided into two primary categories: manual or traditional liposuction and laser liposuction.
While both techniques are very effective, they do have some differences to consider. Traditional liposuction is still, to this day, the most popular; laser liposuction is less invasive but more expensive and is not suited for everyone. Your cosmetic surgeon will help you determine which procedure works best for your personal needs.
